“Hodl” means hold and was a term coined back in December 2013 by a man who went by the username GameKyuubi on the BitcoinTalk forum. Rumor has it that he mispelled the word in a title he wrote on the forum “I AM HODLING” due to a whiskey drunken mind state at the time. The context of this misspelling was during a market dip (slight market crash) in which he was telling everyone that he was not selling his cryptocurrency… he was holding on for dear life.
Since this term came about it has become very popular in the crypto space and is often used to in replacement of “hold” when talking about crypto investment.
The second word of this site’s name, which is Digest, literally means to break down (food) and absorb nutrients. But of course in the context of this site it is not food that we are talking about… its cryptocurrency.
The purpose of Hodler’s Digest is to break down information about or related to cryptocurrency so that those with not technical background in code writing, or anything like that, can easily understand.
My name is Kyle (go by Mr Hodl on the site) and I am the founder of this site.
It was back in 2015 when I bought my first Bitcoin for around $300… a nice whole Bitcoin. Unfortunately that Bitcoin is long gone now, having been invested by myself into an online ponzi scheme that would not allow me to later withdrawal my funds.
It was a stupid decision on my part to invest a Bitcoin so carelessly. But at the time I did not see Bitcoin as the life-changing technology that it has become. Sure it has downsides and scalability is an ongoing problem that it faces, but the new technology that it brings to the table is something this world has never seen. And I believe it will continue to evolve over time into something much greater.
Anyways… since my initial experience in crypto I have realized how truly awesome some of this new tech is and how it can really benefit life as we know it. I’ve been fascinated with it and both crypto investing as well as trading have become hobbies of mine.
